News from Villa Luna

Here come the pirates!

Dear parents,

This week was our first “pirate week” at Villa Luna, as we’ve started a new pirate project in connection with the current facemask situation. We wanted to include wearing facemasks into our program to make it more natural and fun for the children to wear them, and it has worked really well!

The kids are excited about their new roles as pirates, making pirate hats, telescopes, making bottles to send messages out to sea, getting sailor tattoos…it’s been great fun!

They have a learned a lot about pirates and ships, learned some pirate songs, and done a number of science experiments as well (like making a salty “ocean” or floating paper boats in water and discovering how and why they move when wind pushes them).

Our treasure hunt was very exciting! With the help of clues (and our telescopes), the children found all the pieces of a treasure map that were hidden around Villa Luna. All the pieces fit together and now we’re ready for our next adventure!

We’ve done a lot of exercising as well – some calmer “pirate yoga” in the mornings, and going outside every day to practice navigating on a pirate ship and to learn cooperation through games. And at the very end of the week, we made extra-special and extra-blue pirate ship pudding. Yum!

We’re sending a big hug to all our children that are at home these days, and we hope you are well.

Have a good weekend, and stay safe!

Your Villa Luna Team
