Exploring our sense of touch!

Week 6-10.12 in Lions class

Dear parents and friends of our little Lions!

We have come to the end of another busy week in Lions class, and we have had so much fun! This week has been full of activities exploring the sense of touch, preparations for Christmas, songs, and crafts.

Monday began with a visit from Mikulaš and his angel – thankfully all our Lions had been good enough to get a present, of course!! We also made a lovely Mikulaš craft which you will have seen in the cloakroom – please take yours home to enjoy!

To open our exploration of the sense of touch this week, we did a fun activity with a sensory box. Each child had a turn to put their hand inside and explore what different items were inside. Of course, they were all Christmas-themed! After this, we did a fun blindfolded activity to guess a friend only using our hands – our Lions have learned that there are so many ways we can explore and learn with only our hands.

Each morning, we have opened the next door on our Advent calendar to see what task or challenge is inside! And on Monday morning we lit the second of our Advent candles. We are getting so excited for Christmas, and these routines are very helpful for us to count down the days! We have also been practicing our Christmas songs in Czech and English each day, which the children have loved to perform for us in circle time!!

We spent some time in the Villa Luna gym this week, playing with the parachute and practicing our gross motor skills. These activities are not only great for us physically, but also to help our Lions learn to follow and listen out for instructions.

Our Lions have been very busy creating things this week as well – first we made some salt dough, which we used to make a secret craft (you will find out soon!), and we also made some lovely gingerbread cookies. So yummy! The children loved to smell each ingredient and help to mix everything together – we use all our senses when we bake!

Finally, we spent some time this week revising different shapes – circles, squares, and triangles. We used different materials to create these shapes, and the children were put into different groups. This is a really great way for them to learn cooperation and sharing, too. After this, they individually cut out different shapes and organised them according to colour on a worksheet. What clever Lions we have!

As you can see, it really has been a busy week – we hope you have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to next week! It will be full of Christmas preparations, and we will also be exploring our final sense – the sense of smell.

See you soon!

Your Lions teachers.
