Observing springtime!

Week 18-22.04 in Lions Class

Dear parents,

It is the end of another busy, fun-filled week! We have been focusing a lot on the different animals we see in springtime and the baby animals which are born at this time of year.

We began with an exciting “experiment“ as we created grass caterpillars using soil, grass seeds and tights! We have been watering them each day in the classroom and observing them as the seeds start to grow. Our Lions love to have these experiments in the classroom!

Our Lions are very interested in drawing and also arts and crafts this week – we have created spring collages, coloured springtime landscapes together, and did lots of cutting! It’s great to see their imaginations! We also did a fun craft to practice letter recognition and writing our names, by spelling the names in eggs that the Little Red Hen had laid! All of our Lions can recognise their names and the first letter sound too.

During circle time, we have talked together about the weather and what happens in springtime, read the story of the Little Red Hen, and matched different farm animals with their babies. Our preschoolers even did a special dramatisation of the Little Red Hen story for some of the younger Lions, which they really enjoyed.

As usual, we had our swimming trip. Our Lions were really very brave – two little Lions had been scared of swimming in the big pool, but this week they were so brave and swam there for a little bit! It’s great to see their confidence grow each week.

This week, some of our Lions have been really interested in the logic games we have in the classroom – they enjoy working by themselves or with a friend to spot which picture is the odd one out, or match the same number of items together, and then see if they are right!

Next week will be the culmination of our project – we will have our big Earth Day celebration on Wednesday from 15.00-17.00 and we look forward to seeing you!

Have a lovely weekend,

Your Lions teachers
